MEDICAL SCRIBING

                A medical scribe is a doctor's personal assistant who specializes in documenting doctor-patient exchanges during examinations. Each time a patient visits, a medical scribe records the information into the patient's Electronic Health Record (EHR) as instructed by a doctor, using the EHR to monitor the patient's progress. Typically, a medical scribe works for a hospital, a physician, or on contract. 

The main tasks of a medical scribe are as follows:

• Visiting patients with doctors and other healthcare workers while appropriately recording the visit in the patient's medical file.

• Paying attention as the doctor takes the patient's medical history, doing the physical examination, and accurately recording all other visit-related information.

• Accurately and promptly entering orders into the patient's electronic medical record.

• Helping the doctor with administrative duties such making follow-up appointments, ordering lab tests, and liaising with other medical professionals.

• Assisting the doctor with the electronic medical record of the patient's data entry.

• Keeping current and accurate patient records.

• Responding to patient inquiries and educating patients.

• Supporting patient flow in a clinic or hospital environment.
