MEDICAL SCRIBING

               A medical scribe keeps track of each patient visit, entering information into the patient's Electronic Health Record (EHR) in real time as directed by a doctor and utilising the EHR to track the patient's progress. A medical scribe typically works for a healthcare organisation, a doctor, or under contract.

The primary duties of a medical scribe include:

• Accompanying physicians and other healthcare professionals during patient visits and accurately documenting the visit in the patient's medical record.

• Listening to the physician's history and physical exam, and accurately documenting the patient's medical history, physical exam, and any other details of the visit.

• Entering orders into the patient’s electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner.

• Assisting the physician with administrative tasks such as scheduling follow-up appointments, ordering lab tests, and coordinating with other healthcare providers.

• Assisting the physician with entering data into the patient's electronic medical record.

• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records.
